Family Activities Showing LOVE . . .

Friendship Party: Many of us get together for birthday parties, family reunions, or other events driven gatherings. Make a homemade invitation and invite some friends to get together just because you are friends. Jesus models friendship and love in the story where He welcomed the children to Him (Matthew 19:13-15). Have each family member seek out a special friend to invite. It could be a formal get together with special desserts or informal gathering with a few snacks. The main focus of the event is to let your special friends know how much their friendship means to you and for your family to be aware and get to know who your special friends are.

Family Prayer: Our children are encouraged to pray regularly for their family members. Praying for others definitely shows God's love. A great fun way to do this is to have a bowl of looped cereal pieces (such as Fruit Loops) and a piece of yarn. As you and your family pray, place a piece of cereal on the yarn. The necklace or yarn piece represents the prayers of your family and the love that you've shown by taking those prayers to God.

Honor your Mom and Dad: Do something special for those that do so much for you. Perform a chore - without being asked. Do something that is not normally your responsibility, without being told. Speaking nicely and mannerly to your family members. Making a real effort to get along with your brothers and sisters so there are no disagreements. These things could really make a difference to your mom and dad; a great way to show them you love them.

Secret Neighbor: Don't you love surprises! Most people do. Have your mom or dad help you to pick a "secret pal". Don't tell your secret. Decide then on a month that you would like to secretly do several special things for that "pal". It can be as simple as writing a nice note, making a special card, or baking cookies. At the end of the month, let your "secret pal" know that you are their pal. It's always nice to be appreciated and loved.
